By sharing challenges from her own time in school, 2023 Jewish Educator Award recipient Sarah Shpall, a general studies teacher at Wise School, says she hopes to let students know that it is okay to struggle in order to find success. Ms. Shpall instills in her students that having a “lev tov,” or good heart, will get them furthest in life. “Everyone will read, write, add and subtract,” she says. “But the way you treat and care for others is key to finding success.” In the classroom, Ms. Shpall draws on inspiration from the outstanding educators she once looked to as a student. She can still name all of her teachers from kindergarten through eighth grade!
