JEA Award recipient Jamie Gomer, who trained as an actor before entering the classroom, says people often ask her whether teaching gets easier as the years go by. “If you’ve ever spent time with young children, you’ll know that six-year-olds are the toughest audience,” says Gomer, who teaches kindergarten at Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School. “Our work is never done, never gets old, and never gets easier.” Gomer thanks her colleagues, family, BJE and the Milken Family Foundation: “I leave here today inspired not only to work harder but to be the best teacher I can be.”
